Harvey Lambert -Hull’s next future star
Last night one of St Pauls rising stars secured the Yorkshire Elite u69kgs title, producing a skilled and powerful performance
Head Coach, Mike Bromby said “He is a fine young man and role model for the younger boxers in the gym. I want to give a special mention to Jimmy Stevenson and Paul Kershaw who prepared him for this bout”.
On the same night in Sheffield Aaron Duncan put on a great performance in front of a large crowd supported by Coach Paul Mays. Paul said “It isn’t easy boxing out of town and Aaron showed real character in his performance. It was a pleasure to be by his side.”
Another upcoming young man, Rio Thomas puts on a great skills performance on the road in Barnsley. Travelling and supporting him was Coach Kevin Docwra. Kevin said “Rio is coming along nicely and put on a great show tonight, he is a credit to the gym”.
On this night St Pauls opened its doors to Medicals from 6.30pm.
Individuals had to bring two passport photos, copy of their birth certificate or passport. The cost was £10 and the offer was open to all clubs in the surrounding area.
One Hull of a Night
St Pauls hosted boxers from around the country in yet another successful home show. It was great nights boxing at the St Paul’s Boxing Academy which was enjoyed by a packed audience of prou parents and family members who came to support:
Vicki Pyrah, Rio Thomas, Lloyd Kemp, Joe Young, Will Fethon, Shane Smith, Cory Palmer, Lewis Pawson, Tommy Cochran, Jade O’Berg, Tasha Taylor, and Harry Powell. Who all turned in all turned in masterclass performances!
The club sent a special thanks to Gemini (Liverpool), Bell Green (Coventry), Whitby, Jorvik (York) Platinum & Tommy Coyles for bringing class boxers.
The England boxing officials made the show run professionally as did our local compare and doctor.
Mike Bromby said “Thank you John Rutherford” who supplied our trophies and Eddie Beadle Ltd who sponsored the show. Without this type of support we would struggle to put on such great shows.
Finally mike gave out a big shout of thanks to the “A Team” of coaches and support staff who spend countless hours volunteering their precious time developing and making positive impacts for our member’s futures”.
Some professional news
Following a very sound performance Zeeshan Khan got the win last night in his first pro fight. “Afterwards he said “I really appreciate the support. Bradford finest were out representing and showing the love tonight. I am looking forward to my next fight t now on April 6th!!! Take over continues” Paul Kershaw and Jimmy Stevenson were in his corner and have been making sure Zeeshan has been ready for the bout.
Ambassadors for the Gym
Some of our boxers were invited to attend training and sparring with the European squad selection. Harvey Lambert, Tasha Taylor, Chelsey Arnell and Millie O’Neill all impressed on the day and were extremely proud to be given such a development opportunity.
The coaches and boxers wished Coach Darren Christies a massive Happy Birthday as he took his usual session before going out to celebrate. “You can’t beat that dedication” Mike Said.
Happy Anniversary Mike and Kerry
Well-wishers from the gym past and present sent congratulation messages to our head Coach Mike Bromby and his wife and club volunteer Kerry on their 34th wedding anniversary. They will be taking a well-earned break away to celebrate. Mike and Kerry said they were overwhelmed with the response and thanked everyone.
Following a tough bout there is another great win for Danny Little and Peter Waudby.
St Pauls Ambassadors on the Road
Tonight coaches Lynden Young and Paul Mays took Ciaran Turner to Sheffield to compete on Parson Cross show.
Tomorrow Coaches Tony Riding and Darren Christie take Zoe Sansam, Ijaz Ahmed and Tommy Cochran to box in Doncaster on Freedoms show.
Also Coaches Paul Mays and Lynden Young head off to Liverpool with Lewis Pawson and Lloyd Kemp to compete on Gemini”s show.
Finally making a trio of trips this Friday Coaches John Scott and Danny Snow travel to Brough with Danny Salhiovic and Henryk Kazz to box on West Hulls show.
St Pauls Academy supports and invests in boxing clubs and youths futures and want to give as many opportunities for our boxers to thrive and prosper in the sport they are dedicated to.
Sparring at the Gym
There was some top class sparring tonight at the gym with Harry Matthews preparing for his Central Area Super Middleweight title fight and Jamie Scotter grooving the skills for his Hull City Hall showdown.
Last night’s boxing spectacular at the St Paul’s Boxing Academy was a huge success!
Teamwork being the key to our great sports resurgence.
Coaches, boxers, England boxing officials, volunteers, parents and family members all payed their part.
