We then moved on to the presentation during which all carded boxers received aan individual trophy in recognition of their effort and success throughout the year.

We then moved onto the individual prizes.

Crowdfunding Page Success

Wow. An excellent response from friends, parents, coaches, business leaders and community members has seen the crowd funding page raise £5,250 to pay for new changing room facilities as part of the gyms £225,000 makeover. St Paul’s teamed up with Sport England who has already pledged £100,000 towards the refurbishment to help us raise additional funding for the changing rooms.

Sport England pledged to match fund the crowd funding sum if we managed to raise a minimum of £5,000. We did better and will now have a total of over £10,000 with the extra money coming from Sport England.

Academy Development Officer, Barrie May said, “This has been a truly humbling exercise. We know our members do not have money to spare so to see so many of them contributing to the project has made us more determined than ever to continue not only to raise the final sums required but to ensure we make the gym a better environment for them to enjoy.”

St Paul’s on the Road

The boxers of St Paul’s do not rest on their laurels. Although Christmas is fast approaching the boxers and coaches showed their full commitment this weekend by travelling all over the country to compete on away shows.  It was an extremely busy weekend with six of our boxers going out and giving their all. We may not have come away with six wins but all the boxers performed and did St Paul’s, their families and themselves proud.

Three of our boxers boxed against National champions on their home shows. This weekend showed St Paul’s is an academy that is prepared to take risks and take on the best boxers the country has to offer. The rewards for such performances will be massive in the future development of the young talent.

Mike Bromby said, “I am so proud of all our boxers who competed this weekend. We went to Newcastle, Sheffield and Kettering over three nights and put on great performances. I also want to say a special thanks to Darren who gave up his entire three nights to be in the corners of all our boxers, that is pure dedication for you”.

Top Class Sparring!

In preparation for the coming weekend some top class sparring for our own Maddie Gittins and Olivia Williams with Ebony Jones and World and European Champion Gemma Richardson took place over in Scunthorpe.

Head coach, Mike Bromby said, “A big thanks goes to Ricko Richardson for inviting us and to our coach Nick Beach for taking the girls. This type of inter club teamwork is essential in ensuring that boxers continue to improve and meet other talent within the sport”.
