Yorkshire Championships – Sheffield works department
St. Paul’s had entered 7 boxers this year and after the draw 3 have progressed straight to the quarter finals on May 12th ( Will Fethon, Olivia Williams, Leyton Kidman ) that left 4 to box today 3 straight finals and 1 semi-final.
First up was Harrison Mays v Riley Edson it was a tough fight with Harrison taking a count in the first round, but then in the second Harrison battled back and took the fight to his opponent, and again in the third he showed true heart and determination to be beaten on points. It was a brilliant performance.
Then Lloyd kemp v Harrison Wilson. In the first Lloyd was dictating the pace with good clean shots and then in the second Lloyd upped his pace and dominated the round with classy boxing to force his opponent to pull out through injury. It was a classy display.
Then Tyler Ridley v Bailey Jukes it was a well matched contest with Tyler boxing well and landing some good combinations, in the later rounds his opponent upped the pace but Tyler boxed well and kept him at range to take the decision.
Next up Joe Young v Dan Kerrigan the first round was a very close round with Joe the aggressor and Dan the boxer, the second Joe took the range away and landed heavily inside and on the exchanges it came down to the last round were Joe upped the tempo and took it to his opponent, he set a hard pace to match and came away with a split decision win.
Coach Paul Mays said “ To have 7 boxers in a National championship shows the strength of St. Paul’s, we now have 5 boxers through to the quarter finals in May, with Joe boxing in the Yorkshire final at the end of April, the club is just going from strength to strength”.

One Hull of a Home Show.
What a fantastic nights boxing. Parents, family and friends were treated to a cracking night of very close and well matched contests. The atmosphere was electric as youngsters showed off the skills in the opening skill bouts and school, junior and senior contestants all put on magnificent performances to earn the applause of a packed gym.
In a very closely fought contest for the Yorkshire 64KG belt our own Ruhal Hussain took on the current champion, Danny Pass from Parson Cross ABC. Both boxers gave their all and were loudly clapped and cheered at the end of the bout. Ruhal put on a magnificent performance but lost on a split decision so Danny kept his belt.
Afterwards Rhal reflected, “It was a close and hard fight, I am sorry I didn’t quite make it happen but Danny deserved to keep his belt in the end”
Head coach, Mike thanked the boxers, coaches, officials, backroom staff and spectators for making the evening such a success.
