Pre quarters

Following on from the Yorkshire Finals success the St Paul’s young guns were on the road again. This time, Liverpool was the City and the Pre Quarters was the challenge.

It was a thrilling day and one to be remembered as St Paul’s Boxing Academy stole the show again. The young boxers who represented the Academy did so with skill, dedication and massive hearts.

First up for ST Pauls was Lloyd kemp who boxed Storm Owen from Gemini gym. Lloyd boxed a brilliant fight with great combinations; he didn’t rush in and listened to instructions perfectly. He picked up a unanimous decision.

Second up for St Pauls was Ijaz Ahmed who boxed Zac Dryer from the JC’S gym. Ijaz took the centre of the ring and controlled the bout through his lead jab.  Again he listened to instructions and boxed a superb fight to win a unanimous points decision against a very good previously unbeaten opponent.

Maddie Gittins and Will Fethon were both fortunate enough to be given “byes”. However both young guns were ready and waiting to go and can’t wait to take to the ring in the next round.

Unfortunately Joe Young had to be pulled out of the contest due to him picking up a sickness bug.  Coach, Darren Christie said, “It was a tough decision to make but our boxers health will always be priority. There is always next year”

Coaches, Tony, Darren and Lynden were absolutely buzzing from the performances and can’t wait to take the four boxers onto the quarterfinals next week.

Lynden said, “To be the only club from Yorkshire to have four boxers in at this stage shows the strength of St. Paul’s academy”.
